What is Solar-Only Charging?
Imagine charging your electric vehicle entirely from the sun—no grid power, no electricity bills. With the Raedian Wireless Energy Meter, you can unlock true solar-only charging and maximize your rooftop solar investment.
Solar-only charging means your EV charges exclusively from excess solar energy generated by your panels, without drawing from the grid. This is different from “solar charging” where some grid power may be used.
Key Benefits:
- Zero charging costs during daylight hours
- Maximize solar self-consumption
- Reduce carbon footprint
- Future-proof your home energy system
How the Raedian Energy Meter Works
The Raedian Wireless Energy Meter monitors your home’s energy flow in real-time and ensures your EV charger only uses surplus solar power.
Key Features:
- Wireless connectivity to NORA
- RJ45 connectivity to NEO*
- Real-time solar production monitoring
- Dynamic load balancing
- Works with any solar system (no brand restrictions)
Installation Requirements
✅ Must be installed by a licensed electrician
✅ Compatible with existing solar inverters
✅ One Energy Meter supports multiple Raedian chargers
✅ Installed at your main switchboard

Solar-Only vs. Solar Boost Mode
Solar-Only Mode: Charges ONLY when excess solar is available. Charging may pause if clouds pass or household loads increase.
Solar Boost Mode: Prioritizes solar but supplements with grid power to maintain consistent charging.
Is Solar-Only Charging Right for You?
Best for:
- Homeowners with 6kW+ solar systems
- Flexible charging schedules (charge during the day)
- Those seeking maximum bill savings
Not ideal for:
- Overnight charging needs
- Small solar systems (<3kW)
- Shaded roofs with inconsistent production
Renting a property, can I charge with Solar-Only?
Renting a home with existing solar? Yes, the RAEDIAN NORA range is ideal.
Using NORA’s wireless connectivity and interchangeable adapters, the energy meter can be retrofitted to an existing residence in a completely non-invasive way.
- No drilling
- No permanent alterations
- and no changes to existing electrical cabling – it’s almost plug-and-play.
NORA adapters allow you to simply plug into the residence, and when it’s time to move, unplug and take the charger and Energy Meter with you to your next home.
Compatible Chargers
The Raedian Energy Meter works with:
- NORA 7kW/22kW (portable/wall-mount)
- NEO 22kW (premium home charger)*
- Future Raedian models
*NEO Single Phase units have the same features as the energy meter, but only using an extra CT clamp. This is connected similar to the Energy meter by using RJ45 back to the main unit

Cost Savings Calculator
Example: 50kWh EV battery charged from solar
Grid electricity: ~$10-15 per charge
Solar electricity: $0
Annual savings: $800-1,200+ (based on daily charging)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I add more chargers later?
A: Yes! One Energy Meter supports multiple Raedian chargers.
Q: What happens on cloudy days?
A: Charging pauses or slows. Switch to Solar Boost Mode for grid backup.
Q: Do I need a battery storage system?
A: No, the Energy Meter works with standard solar systems.*
*Home Battery Configuration: The energy meter monitor’s the -/+ electricity flow on the main incoming line via a CT clamp, it is not battery aware. Meaning the possible risk of unwanted house battery drain. Please make sure you can set your battery to stop discharge when solar charging or use a 3rd party app to control electricity flow eg ChargeHQ.
